| 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful  Fast even on a SATA 2 laptop, By This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V+200 240GB SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Drive SVP200S3/240G (Personal Computers)  The Kingston SSDNow V+200 is Kingston's attempt to provide a solid-state drive with the amazing Sandforce processor at a reasonable price. I was able to score one of these drives from a street vendor, and it was worth every penny. I had the choice between the V100 256GB and the V+200 240GB for the same price, and I chose the latter because I am planning on buying a new laptop with SATA 3 in a few months. *Installation My installation went flawlessly. I unplugged my old drive, unscrewed the bracket, and transferred the bracket to the V+200 prior to plugging it into my laptop. I loaded Windows 7 on a USB drive using the USB/DVD download tool from Microsoft. The installation took about 10 minutes. The drive didn't need any changes, and TRIM was already enabled. I just turned off defragmentation. *Performance Windows score of 7.7 The V+200 crushed my laptop's factory 5400 RPM drive --Shaved 1:08 off of cold boot... Read more 3 of 8 people found the following review helpful  Poor Mac Support, This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V+200 240GB SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Drive SVP200S3/240G (Personal Computers) Not officially supported on Mac. I bought this drive to run on a MacBook Pro. Assuming that hard drives are standards compliant I figured compatibly would not be an issue. Turns out I was only 1/2 correct. The drive went in easily and was able to get Mac OS installed.One problem I noticed was that it was really slow. Too slow for an SSD. Turns out there is a firmware update to fix it, but the Kingston updater only runs on Windows. So had to find a Windows system that I could install this disk in to update the firmware. The drive has to be installed internally as the firmware cannot be updated via a USB enclosure. What a pain. Kingston could have made this process a whole lot easier if they would officially support Apple systems. Anyway, the drive seems to be working fine with the new firmware. Much faster now and Mac OS is running like a champ. Because of the firmware issue and poor Mac support I am only giving it 3 stars. But if you are a Windows user you won't... Read more |
